Description
After an install to a Compact Flash card, the boot from the CF card fails with the word GRUB continually repeated on the screen. At the start of the install process from the live CD, the recommended option of making a partition to 98% of the card had been accepted, as opposed to trying the ( grayed-out ) option of overwriting the whole card.

The CF card ( a well-known brand in Europe ) comes ready formatted as a FAT partition. The live CD assumed that there WAS a Windows system on the CF card, so created extended partitions 5 and 6. The erroneous Windows partition ( now shrunk to a small area at the start of the CF card ) was left as the bootable partition. This fooled Grub at boot-time. The solution was to delete the FAT partition first, even though it was empty. The install and reboot then worked. Perhaps at a subsequent release, if a FAT partitioned disk is empty, you could make the option of using the WHOLE disk the recommended one ?

With gNS 3 we will have a new installer, this bug may be fixed by that. kgoetz
