Description
When you have installed gNewSense, and for example run the LiveCD and run the installer again, the installer will show that “Ubuntu” (instead of gNewSense) is installed:

Don’t get confused. Ubuntu has never been installed on that hard drive. The second part shows what OS is already installed (gNewSense labeled as Ubuntu) and the first part is what the installer wants to allocate for a new install.
