Summary of sound bug.
alsaconf gives: bash: alsaconf: command not found alsamixer gives: alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory uname -a gives: Linux dbe-desktop 2.6.24–16–386 #1 Sun Apr 27 17:23:02 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux ls /dev/snd/* gives: ls: cannot access /dev/snd/*: No such file or directory sudo modprobe snd-emu10k1 gives: http://rafb.net/p/WQTDui68.html (I did not remove any modules) System > Preferences > Sound > Test gives: audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not open audio device for playback. lspci gives: 02:09.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 0a) and 02:09.1 Input device controller: Creative Labs SB Live! Game Port (rev 0a) Conclusion: The 386 version mentioned above (default for gNewSense 2.0) is for old hardware and seems to lack the needed driver. Why does not gNS provide the default generic kernel deblobed instead? http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/gnewsense-users/2008-05/msg00047.html mention: Based on bug 164, I’ve just removed the contents of linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24 from gNewSense. Expect some hardware to no longer be supported/work the next time you update your system and reboot. Brian. http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/gnewsense-users/2008-05/msg00053.html Well it looks like some free stuff got removed too, so until someone goes through the lot we won’t know. Brian.
{removed non-free suggestion}
That’s “a quick solution”, if any programmer wants to check carefully this action to get it fix, i’m sure Brian and all the gNS community will appreciate it. Ark74 I’m marking it needinfo based on us waiting for KFV to finish with the package kgoetz |
