Description
Fluendo distributes media codecs for patented formats (e.g. MP3) that have freely licensed source code but with binary patent licenses only for specific distributors (http://www.fluendo.com/resources/fluendo_mp3.php). Packages based on these codecs (gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3, gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mpegdemux, etc.) are thus effectively non-free, and illegal for gNewSense to distribute (since we have not signed an agreement with Fluendo). Other free MP3 decoders are just as illegal, but I believe this is an even more significant issue. We should not accept discriminating patent licenses, since they compromise freedom.
